Business is good and I am happy about that! So far, our 4th year of designing is well on its way to be better than years past. Its because of the many people who have decided to supporting me and purchase something different, my designs. I appreciate all their business / support but more importantly that they continue to return for even more! Without them, this never would have happened.

To share in that appreciation and to give back something in return, we are raising our consignment percentage to 25%. That means for every design sold @ $20.00, they earn $5.00 for each piece. Beyond that, the business didn't have to spend anything to bring the design inventory into their store.

And I thought this would be a small hobby?

aquarium interior design? aquarium plants, reptile plants, science class model plants, plants to use in a display environment, desk plants, fake tropical plants for your action figure collection, doll house plants, a little something for just above the kitchen sink, just a few along the top rim of the hot tub, with a small rock garden, plants for your pet snake or turtle; these are just some of the many ways in-which my designs were used! It's all very exciting for me!

After just a few short years, the amount of designs, items sold and number of special order requests has almost more than doubled! Yes, that certainly makes me happy and I have all of you to thank for that.

With all this growth I think now's a good time to start a mailing lists of sorts. It would be those who have purchased my designs and or the folks who are visiting the blog. The data base would consists of a customers name & their email address. All the information would be kept private and never shared.

My designs?
Since March, 2006...
I’ve chosen what I feel are unique ideas for design & plant availability. My primary focus is on the tank interior you create and the space your pets flourish in. Through the years pursuing this hobby, I have always been disappointed by the limited “choices” of species and styles available for our tank interiors.

It’s safe to say most people spend a lot of time, money and energy making their personal living space comfortable and attractive. Do most with fish or reptiles spend that much time on their pets tank? Probably not, which is why many tank interiors are likely to not "stop traffic". Chances are also good that the fish or reptiles are more than likely, uncomfortable, within their glass house. I think the tank interior design decision should get an equal share of your personal style and their natural needs. Just imagine those florescent pink or orange plastic plants in a tank, in your Victorian themed parlor!

Face it, we get into fish & reptiles for one reason-to watch them! They are graceful, beautiful to look at and very unpredictable. With just a few minutes spent staring into the tank, all the stress of the day is gone. Peace is now completely yours. Rest assured, they will certainly appreciate them as well!

a customers concern

first and foremost it's very important to me that each customer is completely satisfied with their purchase.

a few days ago, an ebay customer purchased one of my designs. the transaction went smoothly and the item was then shipped. when the ebayer received the item purchased, they felt that they didn't get what was described in the items description.

here is their concern & remarks:

"Before I leave feedback, I just want to express my concern that what was pictured is not what I got.

Your description states "Purchase is for 1 silk aquarium or reptile plant spider plant grn ylw. (sap0133) aprox. 10" high 12" wide. Item is hand designed by myself. Can be used in an aquarium or reptile environment. Product is life like, long lasting and safe; no toxic products used. Weighted (w/natural river rock) plastic base.

While what I received fits the written description, missing are the rock formations, frog and plastic base shown in the picture".

next month, will be one year since this aquarium design idea was put into motion. this is the first time ever that this "question / concern" has come up and i would like to clarify things. the large rocks that are featured in the photograph are there as a display enhancement and not part of the auction purchase. i use them within the photograph to create a reproduction of what the plant for sale might look like within an aquarium environment. the frog featured in the photograph is also a display item and made of ceramic; not available as part of the described auction / buy it now purchase item. the square base that all of the visual items & plant design are in is actually an old Pyrex square baking dish which is used to simulate the "base" of an aquarium. the plant design itself was actually secured with-by a clear plastic base (hidden in the photo / under the gravel) weighted with natural river rock.

i do feel bad that the said buyer was lead to believe that they were going to receive all the additional "display" items along with the described plant design. in the future, listed items descriptions will now also contain a clear notation that the "additional display items (rocks, frog, glass base) " are not part of the said / listed auction. it is my hope that this will clear any future confusion.

i am sorry that this particular ebay member felt this way. I hope these steps will help future buyers to have a clearer understanding of what they are bidding on / buying. i always appreciate any concerns and or feedback from anyone.

With the popularity and success of the clip / hook style designs, I’m introducing an additional new line of aquarium or reptile plants to the collection. These particular designs will feature plants that are unique in style, provide added coverage, offer flexibility in placement, make cleaning easier, provide a “truer” depth perception to the environment and are value priced!

The designs will be mounted onto a piece of plastic canvas – secured by a suction cup to the inside back of the tank, making the item weigh less (reduced shipping rate) and cost less to buy! Initially there will be two standard prices, regardless of style, based on the size of the canvas. Small design: $5.99 and Large $6.99. Shipping cost (within U.S.) for either size is only $4.00 per item purchased at my ebay. Over all size dimensions of the design will vary by style and will be noted within their individual description.

This particular design is meant to rest against the back of the tank, inside of course. This unique and space saving design has the foliage mounted on a piece of plastic canvas. The design is held in place using a suction cup (included) for stable mounting which makes positioning the design/unit very flexible. This design is meant to give the interior a more true depth effect and to supply ample cover for those who need. Since the plant isn’t under gravel, cleaning is extra easy! The cost of shipping on this item is slightly less than the “plastic base” designs because the weight is less; no river rock.

finally reconnected!

hello everyone!
I am pleased to say that I am finally reconnected!

As most of you already know, I recently moved from the south end of the city to the north end. The move was a huge task but I did have help from many of my friends which made it better than it could have ever been. To them...know that I appreciated all your time and help very much! My M.S. also proved to be an unwelcome guest through the process as well. The downside of the move was the Verizon DSL issues. My last login was November 10, 2006. Yes, its taken that long for all the switches to be reset and the signals rerouted! Needless to say I wasn't real happy with their delays in transferring my DSL service; that's all in the past now. Verizon did issue me a credit for a months worth of service for the delays!

In that small window of being "unconnected from the world" I managed to get 531 new messages in my email! Understandably, it will take a few days to go through them. Certain to say I lost quite a bit of potential business from the aquarium plant design project and a complete loss of communication from any potential and or existing customers. I'm amazed at how dependent we have all become on the internet, in some respects it troubles me a great deal.

the mechanics:

i use non toxic products on all my designs and when ever possible try to always first use recycled products (plastics: empty register tape rolls, empty ribbon spools). leaves are always "dip tested" in water that’s 80* to check for colour bleeding before design begins. I'm constantly pursuing other design choices and products; quality and value are a must always. if it’s stale, then it shouldn't go in the tank. I buy from a variety of suppliers both locally and online. since supply and demand are always a constant, when one is out of stock i will then pursue further elsewhere. unfortunately, there are times when i can only get one style from only one supplier; from time to time I'm forced to wait. since each design is done by hand, no one design is exactly like another. for example if you ordered 6 pieces of one particular style#, not all the leaves would point the same direction. the overall quantity of product duplication would be the same though.

The design process / shipping time can take several days or more, so please be patient. I will keep you posted on progress and or any other unforeseen situations that may arise. The blog is updated every time there are new designs available. I also have an email contacts list of past bloggers and ebay buyers that also receive update notices. All sales are final.

on april 6, 2006 my first silk aquarium design sold; it was a great moment. since then, i 've been blessed with many more and i can't begin to thank all of you enough. you've embraced my art and given me the green light for more. for an artist, the highest commpliment is having someone else recognise your work. i will do my best to keep you looking and better yet, maybe raising one brow! in appreciation to those who have said yes i like it and i want it for my fish, i'll share just some of the many compliments and recognition i've recieved from many fellow ebay'ers from all over the world...

I am happy to say, my first collection of hand made silk aquarium plants are complete. Beyond wanting something creative to do, I also wanted to design a unique line of aquarium plants. I’ve been a louver of tropical fish for along time. Through out the years pursuing this hobby, I have always been turned off by most of the “choices” available for aquarium interior design. Yes, I said aquarium interior design. It’s safe to say most people spend a lot of time, money and energy making their personal living space comfortable and attractive. Do most with fish spend that much time on their tank? Probably not, which is why many tanks interiors are not all that appealing to look at. Chances are also good that the fish are more than likely, uncomfortable within their glass house. I think the aquatic design decision should be an equal share of your personal style with their natural needs and “familiar” surroundings. Face it, we get into fish for one big reason…to watch them! They are graceful, beautiful to look at and very unpredictable. With just a few minutes spent staring into the tank, all the stress of the day is gone. Peace is now completely yours.

The idea of “plastic” makes me quiver. Most are bland in design, available in minimal species and not even close to looking “real”. I don’t even like the way they feel on my skin so why would I want my fish near it? Until just a few years ago, plastic aquarium plants were our only option. Silks and latex blended materials have opened many new avenues of style & theme. Many of the current silk plant manufacture’s have spent good time researching and designing incredible “life like” looking plants. Again, the choices are still moderate but better than plastic. One big issue with me has always been the selling price; it’s way too high. I know its not any everyday item but the mark up is too greedy, boys.

So here’s an alternative option, my designs. I’ve chosen what I feel are “other” ideas for species availability. My primary focus is on the life-style…the aquatic interior you create and the space they flourish in. To enlarge an image, click on it. Additional items under other post's by date.
